It’s Officially Cozy Season
Well, hello there September and welcome cozy season. Now that September is officially here, it is time to cozy up my cottage home for fall. Here are all the things I have been doing to get our home warm and cozy for the ‘ber months.

Small Cozy Corners
I often start the transition to autumn in all the small cozy corners of my home. My favorite reading chair, the fireplace mantel, the breakfast nook in the kitchen and my entryway. Starting small and then working in the larger spaces helps my home feel layered with intention.
I was on a mission this year to simplify my seasonal decorating. I spent time shopping my home and piecing together the feeling I wanted to create for autumn. It always surprises me how simple things such as swapping decor pieces from other rooms, moving pieces from a cabinet to a different area of the room or simply adding a few different stems can completely change the look of a space.

Early Fall in my Home
What does early fall look like in my home? It’s a reflection of what is going on in nature. There is still a little bit of green, some leaves are starting to change color, and the flowers are starting to dry. All of these elements can be found scattered throughout my home.
It’s warm tones, cozy textiles, and quilts. Oh, how I love my quilts. They were the springboard for my fall decorating this year. Nothing says “cozy” like a stack of old, worn quilts layered with stories.
There is a smell of pumpkin spice and apple in the air. I pulled out all my favorite candles, not only for the cozy scents but also for the cozy lighting.
Oh, and of course, there are dried hydrangeas. This is my absolute favorite way to make my home feel like fall. Not only is it a sustainable way to decorate, but it also makes decorating affordable. I cut and dry a ton of hydrangeas. This year, I added them to baskets, under cloches, in antique crocks and I even made a wreath for my living room cabinet.
I dry my hydrangeas by setting them in a large vase with about an inch of water and let them set for about two weeks. Taking them outside and spraying them with some hairspray helps to keep the petals intact.

Fall Decorating Essentials
- Ribbon in two different coordinating colors or patterns
- I love ribbon because it is simple and easy to add to existing decor that you already have in place. It doesn’t add any clutter.
- Dried florals
- It is no secret that I love to use dried florals in my home. I dry a bunch from my garden all summer long, so I have them for the fall and winter.
- Apples
- Apples are a simple way to add color to your kitchen for fall. They look pretty styled in a bowl to add a pop of red, plus they are easily accessible for cooking and snacking!
- Cozy textures
- Bring in knit and flannel textures by adding your favorite throw blanket to a cozy reading chair or a new pillow cover on your couch.

A Cup of Something Cozy, The Scent of Warm Spices
Cozy is a feeling. This is the piece I think gets missed when we talk about seasonal decorating. It’s not just about how your home looks; it’s about how it feels too. It’s the warm spices of a simmer pot on the stove or a candle burning, it’s the coziness of curling up on the couch with a soft blanket and a good book. It is fresh baked pumpkin muffins on the counter or apples picked from the orchard tucked in a basket. Sometimes it truly is the smallest and simplest things that make our homes feel “cozy.”
I hope that you enjoy the start of autumn and all the joys that it brings.

Sending Warm & Cozy Wishes,
