A Few of my Favorite Things

holiday decor staples
When I started cleaning out and organizing my holiday decor over the last several weeks, I took inventory and kept only the things that I truly use year after year, the pieces I know I’ll continue to love, even as my decorating style evolves. If I had to pick just five items to recommend that you invest in, these would be it!
For your convenience, you can shop everything in this post below!
Greenery
It’s the foundation I build all my other holiday decorating on. These are a few of my favorites.
Norfolk Pine
I have garlands from both Afloral and Hobby Lobby. If you’re looking to invest in these, I recommend buying them during the off-season, that’s when I picked mine up. I often see the Afloral Norfolk Pine garland on sale in July and right after Christmas.
My Texas House 9-Foot Cedar Garland
Although I don’t encourage rushing the seasons, this is one piece I would pick up early because it can be hard to find the closer it gets to Christmas.
Amazon Cedar Garland
Amazon has a garland that mimics the texture and style of the My Texas House garland. It comes in a few different lengths; I purchased the 6-foot version. I have shared a link for this one below.

why I love it
I use my Norfolk Pine garlands on my mantel every year. I didn’t buy them all at once, I added a few to my collection each year and built it up over time. I shop sales and tuck them away for the holidays. The wispy, lifelike look of these is unmatched (in my opinion). They drape perfectly across my mantel and instantly make my living room feel like Christmas. I also found these amazing straps this year that I used to secure my garland.
The My Texas House Cedar Garland is another favorite for two reasons: the price point and the quality. It’s very lifelike, and I especially love the shade of green. I style these on my stair railings each year. Since they’re often hard to find, the Amazon garland is a great alternative, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was to work with.
You really can’t go wrong with any of these garland options.

Ribbon ( satin or chiffon)
Ribbon is probably one of my favorite styling pieces. It’s incredibly versatile and relatively inexpensive. If you’re bringing in accent colors for the holidays, ribbon is the perfect way to do it.
Satin or chiffon ribbon are the best options for hassle-free styling because you don’t have to worry about a “right” or “wrong” side when tying bows.
why I love it
Ribbon is that finishing touch that often completes a look. It effortlessly brings in accent colors and brings a cohesive look to your garlands, Christmas tree, and gifts. Don’t forget that ribbon is perfect for hanging ornaments and adding color to wreaths, too. Sometimes just adding ribbon to existing décor is the perfect way to add a festive touch without needing to buy new pieces.
a pretty green wreath
There isn’t anything more beautiful than a simple green wreath with a big bow at Christmas time. Whether you hang one on your front door, above your vent hood, on a hutch, over your bed, or above your fireplace; you can never go wrong investing in at least one green wreath.
why I love it
Greenery in my home this time of year just makes it feel like Christmas. I love the look of a classic green wreath with a big red or burgundy bow. Simple, timeless, and festive. Plus, you can remove the bow after the holidays and keep your wreath up all through winter.

norfolk pine stems
I’ve always loved these stems, and the good news is there are plenty of affordable options. I have a mix from a few different places, but my favorites are from Hobby Lobby and Afloral (I purchase all my stems in July when they go on sale). If you want to invest in some, pick them up over the summer or right after Christmas and tuck them away for next season.
There’s also a version on Amazon that’s a bit shorter but still a quality, budget-friendly option (linked below).
When I decorate my home, I love bringing in faux stems that have a gathered, organic look, like I just went outside and cut branches from a tree. These stems have beautiful movement and that “gathered from nature” look that I adore.
a mini tree
Mini trees instantly dial up the cozy factor wherever you style them. There’s nothing cozier than a sweet little pine tree in a basket tucked on a shelf, on your kitchen counter, or on an entryway bench. This one from Amazon is one of my favorites and Walmart also has the My Texas House twinkle light mini tree this year.
why I love it
Mini trees are versatile pieces to have for the holidays because there are so many ways to use them. Display them in a basket or vintage pot to add character and charm. They look so sweet with dried orange slice ornaments or a few ribbon bows. Their small size makes them easy to store at the end of the season and gives you endless possibilities for styling throughout your home.
Well, sweet friends, I hope this was a helpful guide as I shared my staple holiday decor pieces. When investing in seasonal decor, take time to consider what you truly need, have room to store, and can use for many years to come.
